The five ratios

Five ratios summarize a ledger. Each is printed with its meter point and an arrow for which direction is better, because mixed-direction scorecards are easy to misread.

Formulas and directions

The five Joule Ledger ratios
RatioFormulaBetter
Decision YieldDY(Mx) = Npass / E(Mx)Higher
Overhead RatioOR = E(M4) / E(M3)Lower (≥ 1)
Landauer GapLG = Eper erasure / (kB·T·ln 2)Lower (≥ 1)
Energy ReturnER = Edelivered / (Econstruction + Eoperation + Edecommissioning)Higher
AutonomyA = Twithout intake / TmissionHigher

How values are written

Every value carries its meter point and direction, for example "OR(M4/M3) ↓ 1.12" or "DY(M3) ↑ 2,449 decisions per kWh". A value without its meter point is incomplete.

Autonomy

Autonomy is the share of a mission a system can complete without new intake, with endurance (usable reserve divided by mean power drain) as a secondary measure. It has no published precedent, so the mission profile must be versioned and stated.

Questions

Is a single efficiency score possible?

Not honestly. The ratios measure different things in different directions; combining them would hide exactly what a buyer needs to see.
