Every Joule Has a Job: the JL-26 textbook
The Joule Ledger explained from first principles: how to account for every joule a machine uses, where to measure it, and how to report it so others can check. A PDF, $296.
What you get
- The five accounts and the closure rule, with the physics behind them
- Meter points M1 to M4, and why boundaries decide what can be compared
- The five ratios, each with its formula, units and direction
- Labels, grades and claim labels, and how to use them in a report
- Worked ledgers, including ones that fail to close, and how to diagnose them
Who it is for
Engineers, researchers and sustainability leads who need to understand energy measurement for computing well enough to plan it, read it critically or explain it to others.
How it works
Read it before you measure. Each chapter maps to a part of the method summarized on this site, starting with the five accounts. When you are ready to apply it, a Joule Ledger Assessment measures one system at declared meter points.
Price and limit
- $296, one payment.
- At most 3,000 a year. The limit reflects what we can deliver well; we do not run countdowns.
- Prices rise 10% each year. A price you have paid stays fixed for the period you paid for; the increase applies from your next purchase or renewal, and we tell you before it does.
What it is not
JL-26, the Joule Ledger, is a proprietary measurement method published by AAERL. It is not a consensus standard and has not been adopted by any standards body or regulator. An audit grade (Declared, Witnessed or Replicated) says who checked a result and how. It is not a certification, an accreditation or a regulatory approval.
